Project Summary

The main objective of this project is to replace the old water supply network in the area. Renovating the water supply system is important to avoid pipeline failures and major renovations in the coming years.

As part of the water supply network renovation, we will also address traffic planning challenges on Aleksis Kiven katu between Sturenkatu and Hämeentie and on Fleminginkatu between Vaasankatu and Aleksis Kiven katu.

The project will also include the following measures:

  • Easing the angle of the tram track at the Fleminginkatu intersection
  • Improving congested stop areas and creating a dedicated lane for public transport between Sturenkatu and Fleminginkatu
  • Cutting down trees that are in poor condition, followed by planting new ones and ensuring they have space to grow
  • Widening narrow pedestrian crossings and converting the tree-lined cycle path into a footpath
  • Improving cycle traffic on Aleksis Kiven katu and providing cyclists with a route to the Baana via Dallapénpuisto park

Schedule

The works will begin in September 2024, and all phases are expected to be finished by the end of 2026.
